About:
Velia is exploring previously overlooked peptides to create novel therapeutics. Peptides are an important class of biological molecules that regulate biological functions which are important for human health. For example, the peptide insulin is important for blood glucose regulation. Mass spectrometry has now revealed smaller peptides, microproteins, that were previously overlooked due to technical challenges. Velia is investigating these microproteins using computational science, functional genomics and human clinical data, to see what processes they regulate and how targeting them can alleviate symptoms of disease. Velia will use these results to develop first-in-class therapeutics.
