Pendulum Therapeutics is developing therapeutics that unlock the gut microbiome to improve health. The gut microbiome consists of all the bacteria, viruses and fungi that are involved in many physiological processes and when dysfunctional can cause diseases like Type 2 diabetes. Pendulum’s main product, Pendulum Glucose Control, is a blend of bacterial strains that can generate butyrate. Pendulum has their own closed-system facility to generate these anaerobic bacteria such as Akkermansia muciniphila. Pendulum uses enteric capsules to ensure the probiotics reach the intestine. The capsules have been shown to help manage blood sugar spikes in people with Type 2 diabetes taking metformin. Pendulum is focusing on increasing their product range to identify other beneficial bacterial strains.
