Pattern Bioscience is developing clinical diagnostics to combat antibiotic resistance. Up to 50% of all antibiotics prescribed in hospitals are unnecessary or inappropriate, and overuse can increase the likelihood of antibiotic resistance. Pattern is addressing this global problem by making faster, smarter and more agile diagnostics so patients can be offered focused antibiotic treatments. Pattern’s diagnostic approach uses their Digital Culture technology that identifies pathogens and antibiotic susceptibility test results within four hours. Digital Culture bypasses the need for time-consuming culture steps and instead uses proprietary single-cell analysis technology to measure live response of each pathogenic cell directly.
