Parallel Bio is creating a human “immune system in a dish” to discover drugs and immunotherapies for patients. The immune system comprises an orchestrated balance of unique cells and thousands of molecules. To model the immune system, Parallel is using their platform that combines human immune organoids with scale and computational methods to generate insights into human health and disease. The immune organoids are mini human lymph nodes derived from patient cells such that the organoids behave just like the patients from which they originated. This makes Parallel’s approach (1) predictive, enabling drugs and immunotherapies to be identified that are more likely to work in patients, and (2) representative, as they can ask questions like ‘How many people will this drug work in?’
