Owkin is using artificial intelligence to identify new treatments and diagnostics. Cancer is a highly heterogeneous disease, with one cancer tissue containing many subtypes that may respond differently to treatments. By exploiting this additional layer of information that can be gathered from pathology slides, Owkin is offering solutions to give healthcare providers a fuller picture of a patient’s disease such that more patients can benefit from targeted therapies. However, Owkin is also using AI to identify new drug candidates, de-risk and accelerate clinical trials as well as building diagnostic solutions.

📘 Our latest collaborative research paper with CHUV | Lausanne university hospital comparing spatial omics methods for studying tumor biology is now available as a preprint on bioRxiv.

Our analysis included 14 patients with breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, and Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL). The study revealed significant intra- and inter-patient variations that could guide precision therapy decisions. Additionally, we found that different spatial omics methods are best suited for specific purposes—some for high-throughput discovery projects, others for targeted investigations.

This research aligns with our ongoing MOSAIC project, informing the design of our data generation and analysis workflows as we build the world's largest spatial omics dataset in oncology.

Owkin’s AI is #accelerating and #augmenting biology: This month, we’re exploring TLS Detect RUO – our research tool that uses #AI to detect the presence of Tertiary Lymphoid Structures (TLS) in tumors from digital H&E slides. 👇

TLS presence is considered a novel biomarker to stratify the overall survival risk of untreated cancer patients and as a marker of efficient immunotherapy treatment. A simple and standardized approach to measure TLS from routine digitized H&E slides could support the adoption of this biomarker as an independent predictor of response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). With a sensitivity of 97%, TLS Detect has the potential to screen for TLS presence in tumors in a research setting.
