Founded in 2018, Metagenomi is based in Emeryville, CA. Through metagenomics and artificial intelligence (AI), they are able to uncover novel genetic machinery through the study of natural environments. Metagenomi uses a high-throughput platform to rapidly identify naturally efficient, specific, and targetable proteins that can be used in genome editing. Then, leveraging the power of their metagenomics-powered genome editing toolbox they aim to develop curative medicines. This toolbox includes programmable nucleases, base editors, and RNA- and DNA-mediated insertions or deletions designed to be compatible across both viral and nonviral delivery technologies. Their main focus is treatments for diseases of the liver, muscle, and cardiovascular and central nervous systems.
