About:
Mammoth Biosciences is developing novel CRISPR applications for disease detection, research and biodefense. CRISPR-Cas systems are commonly associated with gene-editing yet they possess potential for many other applications. Mammoth is using their CRISPR-based detection platform, DETECTR, to develop a search engine for biology. This works by identifying CRISPR nucleases that can find a defined gene sequence that activates its nuclease activity, which can then be used to generate a signal. This approach has great potential for searching for the presence of specific nucleic acid sequences that are indicative of disease. Mammoth’s approach is rapid and scalable and offers access to disease detection that can be used in hospitals and homes.
