About:
Loyal is identifying drugs for dogs to extend their healthspan and lifespan. Like humans, dogs age, and Loyal is researching a number of drugs that target various cellular processes hypothesized to be relevant to dog aging. By developing drugs with the potential to slow the aging process, Loyal aims to delay or prevent age-related diseases like cancer and dementia. Loyal’s first candidate, LOY-001, targets a cellular mechanism that is thought to cause large dog breeds to age faster and have shorter lifespans. Pilot studies show LOY-001 to be safe and improve glucose metabolism and insulin levels. LOY-001, along with Loyal’s second candidate, LOY-002, are expected to begin clinical trials soon. Long-term, Loyal hopes their drug candidates have potential for human translatability.
