LifeMine Therapeutics is identifying drugs through mining genetically-encoded small molecules (GEMs) from the biosphere. Solutions to medical problems may have already been solved by nature. This is the rationale LifeMine has taken to digitally search for new drugs in natural biological space. Using their Avatar-Rx platform, LifeMine integrates high-throughput microbiology, machine learning and genome engineering to search the fungal biosphere for novel GEMs that bind human targets. Candidates are then optimized using state-of-the art chemical synthesis to advance new products into development. LifeMine has already announced a strategic R&D collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline for multiple disease areas.
