Hyalex Orthopaedics is developing transformational cartilage technology and implant systems to solve unmet clinical needs. Cartilage injury and osteoarthritis are the leading causes of joint replacements today as no gold-standard approach for cartilage repair has yet been identified. Using their biomimetic materials platform, Hyalex has created HYALEX Cartilage that mimics the form and function of native hyaline cartilage. The cartilage is composed of two polymer materials that provide strength and lubricity. HYALEX Cartilage has demonstrated successful long-term fixation and preservation to cartilage surface in a rabbit knee model. This is the only known synthetic implant system demonstrated to preserve cartilage in vivo, and Hyalex now looks to bring HYALEX Cartilage to patients.
