Herophilus is reinventing neurological drug discovery to cure complex brain diseases. Animal models of neurological diseases have contributed to much unsuccessful research as they lack the unique aspects of human pathology. By combining complex human brain organoid models, scaled biology and machine learning, Herophilus is systematically discovering and developing novel drugs with high-confidence in clinical translatability. Machine learning is required to integrate large-scale high-dimensional phenotypic datasets and create comprehensive systems biology descriptions of brain disease. Herophilus currently has programs for Rett Syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease and Schizophrenia.

<p>Herophilus is creating therapeutics to cure complex brain diseases. Traditional approaches to studying the brain have relied on animal models which do not recapitulate human biology and have had limited therapeutic success. Instead, Herophilus is using their complex in vitro Neuroimmune Cerebral Organoid model (NICO) to identify targets and candidate drugs. NICO combines human brain models with scaled biology and machine learning, to screen neurotherapeutic drugs with high confidence in clinical translatability. Brain models are built with patient stem cell-derived brain organoids and capture the genetic and human specific disease biology. Herophilus will use these organoids to develop a patient biobank for each disease program.</p>
