Federation Bio is developing microbiome-based therapeutics to combat and reverse serious diseases. Both the gut and skin microbiome has now been linked with human conditions such as eczema, metabolic disorders and Parkinson’s disease. Federation is using this insight to engineer single-strain live biotherapeutic products to manipulate the immune and metabolic systems in disease. In addition, Federation is using a separate platform to transplant massive synthetic microbial consortia, essentially creating a full-scale gut community from scratch. Federation’s lead program is for secondary hyperoxaluria where they aim to transplant gut microbes to break down the oxalate and reduce kidney stone formation.
