About:

Aeglea BioTherapeutics is using human enzyme therapeutics to treat patients with rare metabolic diseases. Metabolism describes the network of life sustaining chemical reactions needed for health. Rare metabolic diseases typically result from a missing or defective enzyme which is needed to convert chemicals and therefore causes aberrant activity within a cell. Aeglea is using protein engineering to create enzyme-based therapeutics that are engineered to target the primary driver of metabolic diseases. Enzyme engineering involves either developing enzymes that possess advanced properties of existing enzymes or generating enzymes with novel activity. Aeglea is initially focusing on three diseases with ineffective treatment options: Homocystinuria, Arginase 1 Deficiency and Cystinuria.
