The Role
We’re hiring a Cell Engineer to develop engineered cell systems that can seamlessly interface with our bioelectronic platforms. You will lead the design and implementation of custom cell lines, that enable biological sensing, signaling, or modulation. This is a foundational biology role at the frontier of synthetic biology and neurotechnology, working closely with electrical engineers, materials scientists, and device teams in our San Francisco lab.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build genetically engineered cell lines optimized for integration with neural interface hardware
- Perform genome editing (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9) and molecular cloning to validate engineered constructs
- Characterize cellular electrophysiological activity in vitro
- Collaborate cross-functionally across device and fabrication teams to optimize interface performance
- Maintain rigorous documentation, protocol development, and experimental reproducibility
What We’re Looking For
- Expertise in CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering
- Strong background in molecular biology, synthetic biology, or cell engineering
- Experience with electrophysiology
- Familiarity with cell culture, microscopy, and in vitro assay development
- Ability to lead projects independently while working in a highly collaborative environment
- PhD in Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field or equivalent industry experience
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of neural cell types, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), or tissue engineering
- Familiarity with microfluidics, hydrogel substrates, or implantable systems
- Previous work with startup or interdisciplinary R&D environments
Salary/Pay Range
Competitive salary + equity + benefits. Individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and equity
- Medical, dental, vision and life insurance
- Flexible vacation and company-paid holidays
