Accounting Assistant

Elixirgen Scientific is located in the Science and Technology Park at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, an ideal research environment that allows Elixirgen Scientific’s scientists to conduct research at state-of-the-art facilities.

Supervisory Responsibility:
No supervisory expected

Work environment:
This position requires work in an office next to a laboratory. Employees are required to wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment when entering the laboratory.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Essential Functions:

• Compiling and reviewing financial information
• Preparing financial forms, documents, and reports
• Assisting with the preparation of budgets and financial statements including account classification, inventory value assessment, cost of goods sold booking etc.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process
• Assisting with tax filings, accounts receivables, accounts payables, and payroll processing
• Complying with federal, state, and local legal regulations and requirements with external accounting firms
• Maintaining records and filing systems
• Performing other duties as required

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred
• Two years of accounting experience preferred
• Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
• Working knowledge of relevant state, federal, and local regulations
• Proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace, and Quickbooks, preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Excellent organizational skills

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

• Experience and knowledge of manufacturing and service business accounting are a plus
• Demonstrated computer proficiency
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate within the team and across departments both verbally and via written communication.
• Experience and comfort with working with multicultural colleagues
• Driven and independent
• Collaborative with the ability to coordinate efforts between multiple stakeholder
• Articulate with the abilities to identify and solve problems, multitask, and learn
• Enjoys working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment

Travel: International travel may be required to work with international colleagues.
